As we come together to celebrate Pride Month, there’s a powerful statement from Marsha P. Johnson that resonates: “You never completely have your rights, one person, until you all have your rights.”

As a pioneering figure in the LGBTQI+ rights movement and leader of the Stonewall uprising of 1969, Marsha understood how important acting in solidarity as a community was. It’s only when we come together that true equality and freedom can be achieved.

During this Pride Month, it’s important to remember that the fight for LGBTQI+ rights is far from over.

LGBTQI+ people seeking safety in the UK have fled unimaginable horrors back home and when they get here, the asylum system can be distressing and dehumanising.

Show your support and take action during Pride Month. And ask friends and connections to do the same. Here are 3 things you can do to support LGBQTI+ people seeking safety today:

1.  Download our General Election 2024 Action Pack

The general election is now underway so it’s time to speak up about the issues that matter to us. During an election campaign, your local politicians want to know your views because they want to win your votes. So it’s the perfect time to raise your voice for LGBTQI+ people seeking safety and speak out against the UK’s inhumane and traumatising immigration detention system. This pack sets out different ways you can get involved during this election period – just choose whichever actions are right for you.

2.  Make a donation

Your donation, no matter the amount, can make a difference in the lives of LGBTQI+ people seeking safety here and can provide them with the support they need to secure their futures here.

3.  Read Anel’s story

Anel is a lesbian from Kazakhstan who was recently granted refugee status. In her own words, “I knew I wouldn’t be safe if I stayed in Kazakhstan. It was painful to accept that I couldn’t live my life as I wanted, that I couldn’t be myself. I was constantly stressed.”
